Abstract
The article considers the poetry of vagants as a special phenomenon along with other trends of medieval lyrics of the 12th-13th centuries. The main difference between vagant poetry and other genres is that it was originally written in Latin. The social position of the vagants is reflected in the thematic complex of their works: particular ethical views, opposition to the official church and glorification of the freedom of the spirit. The genre and style of vagant poetry, its main themes, the influence of colloquial Latin on the orthography and morphology of the language of vagant poetry are analysed in the paper.
