Prospects of interdisciplinary research into the problem of resource mobilization of academic staff

Zborovsky G., Ambarova P.

Resumo

Introduction. Mobilization of the resource potential of academic staff is a key task of university management. The development of management approaches to its solution should be preceded by a comprehensive study of both the academic staff resources and management practices. The possibilities of research are provided by an interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological framework. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the possibilities of developing interdisciplinary foundations for the study of the mobilization of the academic staff resource potential and the prospects for empirical study.

Materials and Methods. The theoretico-methodological nature of the article required the use of methods for generalizing and systematizing the provisions of interdisciplinary and disciplinary approaches and theories that have been developed by social and humanitarian science. The main directions for the exploration of the problem of academic staff resource potential in modern socio-humanitarian knowledge have been identified through the method of systematic analysis of literature.

Results. The main result of the research is the substantiation of the theoretical and methodological framework for an interdisciplinary study of the mobilization of the academic staff resources. This justification is based on the “revision” of theoretical and methodological provisions of theories of education. The basic interdisciplinary theories are the theories of adult continuing education, professional development and education, non-cognitive human capital, social networks, scientific and educational knowledge. Community-based, resource-based, institutional, normative, and communicative approaches are in demand. The provisions of these theories and approaches are adapted to the subject of the study. An important result of the research is the substantiation of the interdisciplinary synthesis in the practices of university management.

Discussion and Conclusion. The prospects for using the interdisciplinary framework in an empirical study dealing with evaluation and activation of academic staff resources are shown. The practical significance of the results lies in the development of a model of mobilization management of the academic staff resources.

Resumo

Introduction. Training students for innovative engineering activity is one of the priority tasks of an engineering university. However, so far all existing approaches to its solution involve changes in the curricula of degree programmes. The aim of the research is to substantiate and develop a methodological system of training future engineers in innovative engineering activity in the educational environment.

Materials and Methods. The methodology of innovative engineering education, environmental, project, convergent and other approaches was used. A quantitative assessment of the level of development of innovative competencies was carried out during a comparative training experiment based on the average indicator of time series.

The Pearson test was used to assess the statistical significance of the data.

Results. The possibility of preparing future engineers for innovative engineering activities during a comprehensive course projecting in general engineering disciplines without departure from the curriculum is substantiated. To create conditions for such training, a project-based and activity-based educational environment has been proposed, pooling into one system all the resources available at the university and ensuring their interaction on the basis of a convergent approach associated with the approximation and interpenetration of scientific, pedagogical and information technology knowledge. A system for teaching innovative engineering activities in this environment has been developed, including conceptual-target, content, procedural-technological and reflective components, implemented within the framework of a business game.

Discussion and Conclusion. The conclusions made by authors contribute to the development of the environment approach to learning in terms of designing new educational environments, theory and methodology of teaching technical disciplines, as well as project-based learning – in terms of their focus on innovative training of students.

Semenov M., Kicherova M., Trifonova I.

Resumo

Introduction. The article is devoted to the problem of institutional boundaries blurring triggered by the disintegration of traditional institutions, the emergence of new educational formats. The aim is to institutionally analyse the international experience in adult education, explore traditional and new forms, and identify key vectors of change.

Materials and Methods. The methodological framework is an ecosystem approach, comparative, institutional and thematic content analyses of scientific publications. In the first step, the authors analysed statistical data and identified three groups of countries according to the level of adult involvement in lifelong learning. In the second step, the authors conducted a socio-historical review of institutional forms of adult education in different countries.

Results. The analytical review allowed the authors to identify traditional and new institutional forms, as well as their representation in different countries. It was proved that traditional institutions are being replaced by new formats due to the development of digital technologies and the EdTech industry. Traditional institutions are characterized by internal stability, clear boundaries and hierarchy. They are being replaced by flexible, hybrid institutional structures based on digital communication networks with horizontal links. Roles and statuses of participants in the learning process, instructional design, learning pathways, procedures, assessment technologies, which are the key vectors of institutional transformation, have changed.

Discussion and Conclusion. Having analysed historical experience and international best practices in adult education, the authors substantiate a possible evolutionary scenario of institutional changes. The results obtained contribute to the development of scientific ideas about the relationship between the labour market, EdTech industry and institutional forms in adult education to synchronize supply and demand. The study can be used to develop social policy measures for training different population groups and create a national ecosystem of lifelong adult education.

Tikhonova E., Kosycheva M., Mezentseva D.

Resumo

Introduction. The issue of lexical redundancy in academic writing remains crucial. Research based on Russian-language corpora is vital for the development of effective targeted academic writing courses that meet the unique needs of universities. This paper aims to identify factors through examples of wordiness in the Conclusion sections of theses to alter the design of courses broadening academic writing skills to fight against textual redundancy at various educational levels.

Materials and Methods. A corpus of 72 theses across three educational levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Candidate degrees) was analyzed. We selected theses from the repositories of the HSE University and Moscow City University. We focused on Conclusion section due to its highest level of conciseness: textual redundancy critically impacts its effectiveness. The analysis included a comprehensive procedure of raw data extraction, coding, conceptualization during iterative discussions, and classification according to Brohaugh’s taxonomy.

Results. “Invisible” type of wordiness is a prevalent issue in academic writing across all levels of education. Such types as “overkill”, “weak-kneed” and “empty” occur more frequently in research in Master’s and Candidate’s theses. The need to comprehend the reasons behind the use of different types of wordiness and their impact on readability is stressed. Candidate’s theses are wordier despite the expectation of a higher level of academic writing skills at this level.

Discussion and Conclusion. The study highlights the systemic role of academic writing courses at all educational levels in reducing text wordiness. Despite our expectations of advanced writing skills in Candidate’s theses, their high level of wordiness indicates the need for developing effective academic writing strategies. It is crucial to implement a personalized approach to academic writing instruction, considering the specific needs and challenges of each educational level, to create more concise academic texts. The paper provides insights into approaches to designing academic writing courses.
