Abstract
Proto-feminism or pre-feminism is a term that characterizes works created before the formation of feminism or outside the main waves of feminism, but touching on topics important to it. The contemporary Canadian writer Margaret Atwood (born 1939) refers to proto-feminism, explaining that she began her career before the start of the second wave of feminism. In the article, on the basis of books and public statements of M. Atwood, the author examines her attitude to proto-feminism and the women’s issue in general. The main goal of M. Atwood, within the framework of proto-feminism, becomes the fusion of the female issue with general social problems and the universalization of female images.
