Abstract
Teaching epidemiology at the Kazan GIDUV began in 1940, when the epidemiology course was opened at the Department of Infectious Diseases. Lectures on private epidemiology with the clinic of infectious diseases, general epidemiology with coverage of the variability of microbes and experimental epidemiology were delivered by professors A.F. Agafonov, N.N. Spassky, N.K. Lukoyanov, B.A. Volter and associate professor S.G. Silenkov. In 1955, the question of creating an independent department of epidemiology was raised. Its organizer and first head was Professor H. N. Spassky, who headed the department for 14 years.
