Registration and login are required for submitting items online, and for checking the status of current submissions.
Author Guidelines
These guidelines are based on the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
Preparing an Article for Publication
We welcome submissions that present the following categories of manuscripts:
- papers reporting the results of original research;
- scientific reports;
- systematic reviews and meta-analysis.
Authors should create the manuscripts using the templates of the certain formats. Please, download Word templates below:
The structure of a manuscript should follow the structure presented in a template. It is obligatory to complete all the sections given in a template (exception for the manuscripts which do not provide any information for a certain section).

- Length of the manuscript should not exceed 9000 words including tables and list of references. Please, consult the MS Word built-in statistics service prior to submission in order to find out the exact length of your manuscript. Should your manuscript exceed the aforementioned limits, the editorial board will carry out the final decision on its publication based on recommendations from your reviewer.
Manuscript preparation details
- Manuscript details:
- Author (s) name. Please clearly indicate the given name(s) and family name(s) of each author and check that all names are accurately spelt;
- Title. Concise and informative;
- Affiliation (s). Please give the full names of affiliations, avoid abbreviations. Indicate all affiliations with the superscript Arabic numerals immediately after the author's name and in front of the appropriate affiliation;
- Abstract;
- Key words (use MeSH).
- The text of an article. Please, use templates to follow the structure of an article.
- References. The guidelines for reference list you can find below.
- Correspondence information. The section should include:
- Full names of all the authors; degree, rank, and position;
- department and affiliation without abbreviations; the full postal address of the affiliation and e-mail of the author, telephone number (with country code); Ensure that the e-mail address is given and that contact details are kept up to date by the authors.
- Tables.
- Graphics and any Supplementary material.
Reference list preparation
List of references should be organized according to the guidelines by U.S. National Information Standards Organization NISO Z39.29-2005 [R2010]) in AMA slyle (Journal of American Medical Association style, http://www.amamanualofstyle.com). For detailed instructions on bibliographic formatting, see «Reference list guideline». The principle statements are the following:
- References should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in the order in which they are cited in the text, NOT in alphabetical order.
- The quantity of cited sources should be limited to 30 in original articles, and 60 – in reviews;
- Each reference should be cited in the text, tables, or figures in consecutive numerical order by means of Arabic numerals appeared in square brackets.
- List up ALL the authors or editors in reference list. If there are more than four, list the first three, plus et al. Invert all names –authors, editors, translators, compilers – first & middle initials trailing without periods.
- The names of journals are set in italics and abbreviated according to the List of NLM Catalog by the National Library of Medicine. If a journal is not indexed for Medline, you should use its full title. It is unacceptable to reduce the name of the article or abbreviate the title of the national journal (if it does not have NLM Title Abbreviation or ISO Abbreviation).
- A complete print journal reference includes the following: Authors' surnames and initials; Title of article and subtitle, if any; Abbreviated name of journal; Year; Volume number; Issue number; Part or supplement number, when pertinent; Inclusive page numbers.
- Reference list should be presented in AMA reference style (AMA style).
- References to non-Latin sources (Russian, Chinese) should be given in Latin script. If an article has the translated title, you should provide an English translation instead of Latin script transliteration [in square brackets].
Tables
Enumerate your tables, give those a heading and clearly marked columns that would be easy to read and comprehend. Please make sure that table data is in line with the numbers in the body of the text (but does not simply duplicate them).
Graphical material
Reduce graphical material to minimum (unless the nature of your study dictates otherwise). It is obligatory to provide references to all of your supplementary materials (tables, graphs, figures etc.) within the body of the text.
- Illustrations (graphics, charts, diagrams, drawings) should be rich in contrast and clear. This material should be created in separated files, saved in *.jpeg, *.bmp or *.gif formats, and inserted in the final variant of the submitted paper. Do not use MS WORD tools to insert any elements (arrow, text) in the illustration due to the high risk of its loss.
- Photo and screen shots (e.g. results of diagnostic imaging, photographs, screenshots, digital artwork, etc.) should be presented both in a manuscript and as separate files submitted via our web form in *.jpeg, *.bmp or *.gif formats (in format *.doc и *.docx if there are notes). The absolute minimum for acceptable resolution is 300 dpi, though higher is preferable. Do keep in mind that image files should be tagged with numbers corresponding to the enumeration within the manuscript. In addition, file description should provide the caption of your image as it would appear in the paper (exp.: “Fig. 1. Elliott Proctor Joslin, M.D. (1869-1962).”).
If manuscripts give figures previously published in other journals, the author is obliged to provide the permission to publish image(s) in the academic journal "Annals of the Russian academy of medical sciences" otherwise it will be considered as plagiarism (See "Publishing Ethics").
Cover documents
All the required supporting documents will be submitted together with the manuscript. Authors guarantee to upload scanned original of the filled cover letter in *.pdf or *.jpg).
A cover letter signed by all authors is an obligatory document to upload.
Cover letter (nonbinding) should be created on the official letterhead of the institution with contact information and a name of the leader. Cover letter must be signed by all the authorship (if authors work in different institutions or live in different countries, several cover letters can be provided but still all the signatures should be presented).
Article submission
The academic journal Annals of the Russian academy of medical sciences implements international practice of electronic editorial. Authors can submit their manuscripts ONLY THROUGH THE JOURNAL SUBMISSION SITE. Follow the link «Submit a manuscript» which can be found on every page in the upper right corner. You should register and point your role as an author which provides you an opportunity to submit a paper. Every user can submit a manuscript even if he/she is not an author but authorship should keep in mind that the editorial maintains the correspondence with the person who submitted the manuscript. When submitting a paper, a user will complete 5 steps. Fill in all the fields (possible) with as much detail as possible. This information will be used when reviewing and indexing an article in databases.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with each of the following items, and submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines may be returned to the authors.
Absence of plagiarism. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
Correct manuscript format. Manuscript file format is Microsoft Word (has the extension *.doc, *.docx, *.rtf). The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in "For Authors" section.
Cover letter. All the required supporting documents will be submitted together with the manuscript. Authors guarantee to upload scanned original of the filled cover letter in PDF. A cover letter signed by all authors.

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:
- Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International Licensee (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
- Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.
- Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
The authors should sign a license agreement for copyrights transfer to Publisher. Within the agreement Authors should grant to the Publisher a simple (non-exclusive) license to use the manuscript.
