文章分析了东汉末期和三国时期(公元二至三世纪末)的儒家释经思想状况。汉朝衰落后导致权力最终分权的政治危机加速了儒家释经领域的进程。首先,这表现在汉学学派传统失去了统一性和权威性。从三世纪至今,关于儒家学说的正确或错误解释的辩论,以及对先前评论家的解释和批评的新变体的出现,都与将释经提升到公开讨论的层面有关。这一切都促使释经研究从三国时代开始进入争议阶段,当时学者们公开相互驳斥,他们引入了新的评论类型,并用对话的方式创作自己的著作。文章追溯了曹魏帝国的儒家经典的主要趋势,并研究了这一时期的主要评论作品。
