“Herald of VNIIDAD” is the only scientific and theoretical journal for records and archives management in Russia.
The journal was created by order of the director No. 48 dated July 30, 2018 as a platform that ensures scientific communication of specialists, interaction between scientists and practitioners, specialists and the general public, and the involvement of young scientists in research work.
By order of the Federal archival agency No. 171 dated November 7, 2019, the journal was included in the “List of printed publications and reference literature acquired by federal state institutions subordinate to the Federal Archival Agency”.
The journal is published 6 times a year in Russian. All articles submitted for publication in the journal undergo independent review and are checked for originality.
According to the recommendations of the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, by order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia No. 443-r, dated December 22, 2020 the journal “Herald of VNIIDAD” is included in the List of peer-reviewed scientific publications in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the PhD and Doctor degree in the specialties should be published:
– 5.6.8 Records management, document science, archival science (historical sciences);
– 5.6.5 Historiography, source studies and methods of historical research (historical sciences).
For 2018–2023:
– 30 issues were published, which included 368 scientific articles and information and analytical reports. Of these, 138 (35%) were on document science and archival science, 47 (12%) were on information technology, 29 (7.3%) were reviews of foreign experience;
– the journal published 110 authors, including 12 Doctor degree scientists, 40 PhD degree scientists, 8 postgraduate students; heads of federal, state and municipal archives, regional archival committees, archival specialists representing 26 cities of the Russian Federation and neighbouring countries.
Based on the results of the distribution of journals from the Higher Attestation Commission List by category in 2023, the journal “Herald of VNIIDAD” was assigned category 2.

Audiovisual documents as the object of archival study: traditions and problems of exploring
Abstract
The complex of problems related archival study of different types of audiovisual documents historically included into Archive Fund of the Russian Federation in quality of formed community are considered. The analysis based on innovative combination of historiographical and contemporary informational approaches is presented. The synthesis method gives possibility to discover conserving and appearing problems of practical work of archivists with visual, audiovisual and sound informational objects. The selection of acquisition source institutions and appraisal of all types of audiovisual documents, organization of their usage in electronic environment are noted as basic problems for archival study.

Abstract
The article examines the difficulties of practical application of the List of typical administrative archival documents formed in the course of the activities of state bodies, local governments and organizations, indicating the terms of their storage, connected with the storage periods “Before the liquidation of the organization” and “Permanently”, used differently for organizations - sources of acquisition and for organizations, which are not sources of acquisition of state and municipal archives. The proposals for making changes to the List are given, as well as the prospects for a conceptual solution to such problems within the framework of the Information system “Register of types of documents” are indicated

Practical aspects of databases selection, transfer and storage in the Far East countries
Abstract
The article discusses the permanent archival storage of databases. The issues of databases legal regulation, standardization, and permanent storage in state and national archives, and requirements for databases based on the experience of China, Japan and South Korea are considered. In conclusion, the features of databases as a type of document and an object of archival storage are presented.

Discourse on professional and educational standards for document support of management and archiving: a historiographical essay
Abstract
The close relationship between professional and educational standards, as well as the Unified Qualification Directory of positions, is considered. The necessity of their timely and comprehensive updating and alignment with real-time requests is justified. There is a certain imbalance of the stated professional expectations from educational programs due to the fact that all these system-forming documents are not developed simultaneously, which leads to the need for constant revision of professional standards, in which issues of professional competence come to the fore, including the emergence of new competencies that have a significant impact on the formation of new requests to specialists in the field of documentation support management.

Information systems and automated archival technologies: formation and evolution
Abstract
An overview of the research work on the creation of automated information retrieval systems and archival technologies developed in the Scientific Research Center for Technical Documentation of the USSR and the Russian State Archive of Scientific and Engenering Documentation (RGANTD) is presented. The automated information retrieval systems building principles for documents of the State Archival Fund are considered. The Scientific Research Center for Technical Documentation projects on the creation of previously little known information systems are analyzed.
