PARADIGMS OF LANGUAGES AND MODERN LINGUISTICS

Stylistic functions of one-member verb sentences in newspaper discourse
Chernikova N.V.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The relevance of the study is substantiated by the necessity of studying the means of newspaper discourse which is an integral part of the modern media and informational space. The purpose of the study is to identify the types of one-member verb sentences used in the newspaper language, determine the frequency of different types and analyze their stylistic functions in newspaper texts.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The research material is the publications of the newspaper “Arguments and Facts”. The methods used are the method of solid sampling, statistical method, methods of structural-semantic and functional-stylistic analysis of linguistic units, contextual analysis.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. 455 one-member verb sentences are identified; the frequency of their types is determined. It is found that in newspaper publications impersonal constructions are presented in the greatest number, followed by definite-personal and indefinite-personal, the frequency of which in the newspaper language is approximately the same. The fourth place is occupied by infinitive sentences. The minimum number of generalizedpersonal constructions is represented.

CONCLUSION. Definite-personal sentences are active in the newspaper language as a source of brevity, dynamism, expressiveness. Indefinite-personal sentences make newspaper texts lively and light, emphasize the reader's attention to the action without mentioning the subject. Generalized-personal constructions are used to involve the reader in the described events, “generalization” of the author with the audience. Impersonal sentences are primarily characteristic of the interview genre, which conveys the features of oral speech. Infinitive sentences are used to convey the speech of the interlocutor in a dialog and the judgments of the author of the publication; to reproduce an aphoristic statement; to attract the readers' attention to the content of the article as part of the subheading; to attract the attention of potential consumers in advertising texts.

Some semantic and etymological characteristics of English verbs describing sensual and emotional activity of a person
Kuznetsova E.V., Bortnikova T.G.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The study discusses some semantic and etymological characteristics of English verbs describing the sensuous-emotional activity of a person. The way people interpret their emotions depends on the “lexical grid of coordinates” given to them by their native language. And in this vein, the linguistic picture of the world appears as knowledge fixed in the content of linguistic forms, as a kind of system of belonging to the world and a form of its categorization. The need to correlate the prototypical approach in categorization with the conceptualization of historical models [etymological].

RESEARCH METHODS. Within the framework of the development of this topic, the main research methods that made it possible to identify some semantic and etymological features of English verbs describing the sensual and emotional activity of a person are: the descriptive method, the method of component analysis, the method of formalization.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The actualization of the problems of language – consciousness – emotion in linguistics has affected the development of topics and concepts related to the emotional world of a person “as one of the microcosms”. And in this regard, it is interesting that the history of the origin of verbs of emotions and the periods of their emergence lift the veil on how speakers are accustomed to “conceptualize” emotional states. The study of the conceptual structure of the word (in the study – verbs of emotions) according to the etymological analysis can provide important data for further study of the conceptual sphere describing the sensual and emotional activity of a person.

CONCLUSION. When studying the emotional world of a person, his feelings, it is necessary to understand that each language imposes its own interpretive grid of coordinates. Studying the semantic space of the English language, in particular, the microcosm of sensual and emotional activity of a person, in the form presented at the present stage of language development, we obtain certain knowledge about this conceptual sphere of English speakers, objectified by the signs of the language and reflected in its semantic space.

Comparative analysis of memorial oeconyms and urbanonyms of the Kaliningrad region in historical and linguistic context
Peteshova O.V.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The purpose of the research is to compare renaming campaigns of the settlements and streets in the former northern part of East Prussia that formed the Kaliningrad region The focus is on those that either on the original German maps or on the new Soviet maps carry the names of prominent figures from the two respective cultures under consideration.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. While examining 2497 decrees on renaming settlements and 1000 decrees on renaming streets in these settlements, 642 memorial oeconyms and 674 memorial urbanonyms have been identified and consequently subjected to a comparative semantic analysis.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. It is presented that after the renaming the number of memorial oeconym has significantly increased, while the number of memorial urbanonyms remained essentially unchanged. As a result of the renaming dedications to entrepreneurs disappear from the maps, while the number of toponyms derived from the names of military personnel increases. Both spheres compared are characterized by the tendency to immortalize Soviet people on the background of a certain part of nominations formed from surnames of Russian and even Foreign cultural figures. While the original toponymic material is dominated by urbanonyms in honor of local celebrities, the new one, on the contrary, more often associates oikonyms with the culture of the region. The repetition of surnames in the base of onyms is peculiar to both studied time periods and both classes of toponyms.

CONCLUSION. It is concluded that similarities prevail over differences in all points of comparison.

Kundyub- basis in Russian dialects: semantics and versions of etymology
Kuznetsova E.V.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. In the Don dialects of Volgograd Oblast, the lexeme kundyubenkiy with the meaning 'ugly (about a person)' is recorded. The internal form of the word is obscured for a modern native speaker, which determines the purpose of this study: to trace the formation and development of the semantics of the base kundyub- (for convenience we denoted by the base kundyuball its phonetic variants: kundyub-, kundub-, kundum-, kundum-) in Russian dialects and in the literary language, to reveal the etymology of words of this base.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The analysis of lexicographic sources of different directions (dialect dictionaries, dictionaries of modern Turkic and Mongolian languages, etymological dictionaries) allowed us to identify dialectal and all-Russian lexemes with the kundyub- base, which differ significantly in semantics and presumably go back to one or two related ancient bases.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The variation of the semantics of lexemes with the kundyub- base in Russian (mainly in the southern dialects) is considered, the links of the analyzed units in Turkic and Mongolian modern languages are established, the question of the composition of lexemes within the ancient base is raised, taking into account the structure and semantics of the units.

CONCLUSION. The versions of the etymology of the words of the kundyub- base with reference to lexicographic sources are given, variants of the formation and development of the semantics of the basis in diachrony are proposed, problematic and controversial points of the issue under consideration are outlined and further prospects of the study are outlined.

Linguistic features of youth internet communication
Sergeeva A.M., Moiseeva L.S.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. Currently, Internet communication is a unique environment that reflects the linguistic features of youth communication, which differ from the traditional way of communication. The purpose of the study is to analyze the language means used in youth Internet communication. Changes in the linguistic features of Internet communication are currently associated not only with the use of youth jargon and slang, abbreviations and contractions, but also various graphic images reflecting the emotional mood of statements.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The materials for the research are the texts of correspondence of young communicators on the Internet in messengers such as “Telegram” and “VKontakte”. The study of empirical material has been conducted based on descriptive and comparative methods, the method of continuous sampling of text units and the method of linguistic analysis aimed at identifying the system of linguistic means for determining verbal constructions and language units are used.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. Specific lexical means (lexemes of youth computer slang), abbreviations, emoji and emoticon are identified, serving to convey the emotional content of messages in youth Internet communication. It is proved that any changes in youth Internet communication must be recorded in order to orient young people to the codified use of the Russian language.

CONCLUSION. It has been established that youth communication in the Internet environment, which differs from the traditional form of communication, is manifested in the grammar and spelling of the Russian language, in the development of the phenomena of parcellation and abbreviation, in the penetration of Internet slang into live everyday communication. The results can be used in the framework of philological and linguistic text analysis, when studying the language of the Internet and Internet style.

Poetic creativity of F.F. Filimonov in the context of the emerging Ural poetic culture of the turn of the 19th–20th centuries
Kozlov I.V.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The analysis of the poetic creative works of F.F. Filimonov is presented. The aim of the study is to present the creative practice of the Russian provincial poet of the late 19th – early 20th centuries based on the example of life and creative path of F. Filimonov

MATERIALS AND METHODS. Comparative-historical method allows us to present the creative work of the author in a broad context of European poetic culture of that time. The creative tactic of the provincial writer who strives to establish himself not only as an author of verse feuilletons and a satirical poet, but also as a playwright, magazine editor, and newspaper publisher is traceable with the use of accomplishments of literature sociology.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. In the works of Filimonov some sustainable motifs characteristic of the poetic culture of the 19th century can be traced, such as friendship, love, nature, the focus on the “insulted and the inquired”, “mercy for the fallen”, and at the same time, the motifs of struggle, active transformation of the surroundings. They are used to practically influence the reader more effectively, implying changes in the current socio-cultural situation. Combining the poetic creative work with publicistic and dramaturgical practice serves for the same purpose.

CONCLUSION. The poetry of F. Filimonov (Heine from Irbit, Grandfather Thaddaeus) is considered in the context of Ural and Siberian literature at the turn of the century which is supposed to add to the history of the Russian literature of the stated period.

Synesthesia in the early lyrics of V.V. Nabokov. Problem statement
Ovtcharenko A.Y., Konkova S.A.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The key synesthetic concepts in V. Nabokov’s early poetry are revealed, as well as their role in creating an artistic image. The purpose of the study is to identify key synesthetic concepts in V. Nabokov’s early poetry in order to understand their role in creating the artistic image of the collection and further their place in the work of the author’s entire work. The phenomenon of synesthesia attracts considerable attention from researchers in various humanitarian knowledge fields. In the literature, this technique is used to enhance the imagery of a text by combining various sensory perceptions. V. Nabokov’s poetic legacy provides researchers with a valuable body of texts for studying synesthetic mechanisms determined by the author’s worldview.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The research material is the poems included in V. Nabokov’s debut collection “Poems” (1916). The analysis is carried out based on semantic and conceptual methods, as well as through the interpretation of the author’s synesthetic metaphors. It is revealed that in V. Nabokov’s poetic discourse there are stable color concepts “pale”, “purple”, “azure” and “bloody”, which have not only visual, but also symbolic significance. The concept of “pale” is associated with the motifs of withering and loss, “purple” – with transitional states and nostalgia, “azure” – with reverie and heavenly harmony, and “bloody” – with a feeling of pain and emotional tension.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The results of the study indicate that the interaction of these concepts forms a complex system of synesthetic images that significantly enriches the emotional perception of the text.

CONCLUSION. The data obtained open prospects for further study of the mechanisms of synesthesia not only in the poetic, but also in the prose legacy of V. Nabokov.

Comprehension of the literary environment of Berlin and Prague in M.I. Tsvetaeva’s poem “The Moon to a Sleepwalker”: subject-image plan
Shatovkina A.A.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The poem “The Moon to a Sleepwalker” is considered in the context of the historical and literary phenomenon of the Russian diaspora abroad and the artistic selfidentification of M.I. Tsvetaeva during the emigration period. The purpose of the study is to discover signs of ideological differences among Russian–speaking emigrant lyricists in the motives of life and creative isolation. The relevance is due to the emergence of a cultural and historical conflict in the literature of the metropolis and abroad and M.I. Tsvetaeva’s attitude towards it.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. Additional historical, biographical and literary sources are involved in the consideration of the poem: diary entries from different years, epistolary correspondence of the poet, including with B.L. Pasternak, the article “Downpour of Light”. The comprehensive analysis is based on contextual, comparative, motivic, semiotic, and semantic-stylistic methods.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The reconstruction of historical realities helps to identify the prerequisites for the creation of a poem. The compositional, motif-figurative originality of the plot dynamics and the peculiarities of its subject-image plan indicate the divergence of the artistic principles of the emigrant poets and M.I. Tsvetaeva, who asserts the existence of a unified literature on the scale of Russia and the West.

CONCLUSION. The work demonstrates the poet’s going beyond the narrow concept of national identity. The subject-image plan of the poem, stated by the title ellipsis, contributes to the emergence of a syncretic connection between the author and the character, scaling and unifying the creative process. The prospects of the research relate to the study of literature of the Russian diaspora abroad in general and the work of M.I. Tsvetaeva in particular, since the interpretation of the poet’s emigration lyrics causes significant difficulties.

“The soft flesh of the labor land”: Genre specificity of “Ode to the Russian vegetable garden” V. Astafyev
Goncharov P.A.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The aim of the work is to determine the genre-generic and compositional originality of the “Ode to the Russian Vegetable Garden” – one of the most striking and original works of V. Astafyev – in comparison with other works of the Russian prose writer and his contemporaries.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. As materials for the study we took the most authoritative literary works on the novelist’s work, texts of Astafyev’s works of 1960-1990s, which need to be clarified and defined in their generic and genre-compositional specificity by methods of comparison and structural analysis.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The result of the study is the conclusion substantiated by the structural analysis of the work, confirmed by numerous references to the text of “Ode to the Russian vegetable garden”, that Astafyev’s “Ode”, being a phenomenon, universal in problem and theme terms, demonstrates a close connection of V.P. Astafyev’s creativity with “Village prose”. “Ode to the Russian Vegetable Garden” turns out to be a deeply original, traditional and synthetic phenomenon in generic and genre-compositional terms. A significant mythopoetic component of the “Ode” is defined and interpreted; the influence of fairy-tale, “Raeshny” and other folklore traditions in Astafyev’s “Ode” is commented on. The influence of literary traditions of the past and the context of Russian literature of the 1960–1990s as a whole on the structure of Astafyev’s work is characterized. The strong rootedness of the central image of the “Ode to the Russian Vegetable Garden” in the mature and late works of the writer is noted.

CONCLUSION. The article proves that the «Ode to a Russian Vegetable Garden» synthesizes the formal and substantive properties of the epic and lyric poetry, elements of an ode, hymn, idyllic, pastoral, bucolic and other genre varieties of lyric poetry with a prose narrative form, with “Raeshny” verse, with a fairy tale, with parody and its various comic techniques. The techniques and elements of the poetics of the ridiculous used by V. Astafyev are characterized and analyzed.

Eschatological plot in the work of I. Masodov
Kuryaev I.R.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The research is devoted to the study of the eschatological plot in the works of I. Masodov. The goal of the study is to determine the specifics of eschatological imagery and those mechanisms that contribute to the transformation of familiar plots within the framework of the analyzed works.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The material of the study is I. Masodov’s trilogy “The Darkness of Your Eyes” (2001), which includes the novels “The Darkness of Your Eyes”, “The Warmth of Your Hands”, “The Sweetness of Your Tender Lips”. The study is based on historical-cultural, mythopoetic, structural, motive methods of analysis.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. It is established that I. Masodov constructs a story that, using “Soviet” plots and images, shows the situation of apocalypse, “barren land” or the movement towards this situation. The protagonist in each of the novels is a girl who, while actualising the genre aspect of the work, simultaneously actualises the images of an innocent victim, an exterminating angel and, in the case of “The Darkness of Your Eyes”, a knight in search of the Holy Grail. . The world here exists according to the laws of violence, actualizes the motifs of death, all key images here are inverted, transgressed, spaces appear as necro-spaces. Therefore, all the actions of the heroine avenging the viciousness of the world are connected with the motives of death and destruction.

CONCLUSION. I. Masodov’s technique of inverting the familiar image helps him to construct plots that focus on the process of disintegration, destruction, and extinction. The eschatological plot in the writer's trilogy finds an emphatically genre embodiment and at the same time focuses attention on the concept of sin and retribution.

Dementieva M.A.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The comprehension of the events of the Great Patriotic War by the modern writer P.F. Alyoshkin is characterised by specific features. The author, who constantly turns to the depiction of the events of Russian history, has devoted only one work to the Great Patriotic War. The aim of the study is to identify the artistic features of P.F. Alyoshkin's screenplay ‘The war will begin at dawn’ and to consider their role in creating historically accurate events in the text. The relevance of addressing this scientific problem lies in the fact that at present there is an active study of the modern literary process and determining the place of works of historical genre in it.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The materials of the study were P.F. Alyoshkin's screenplay ‘The War Will Begin at Dawn’ and I.M. Shevtsov's novel ‘The Seed of the Coming’. The methodological basis of the research consists of hermeneutic, historical-cultural and structural-poetic methods of analysis.

RESEARCH RESULTS. It is revealed that P.F. Aleshkin created the atmosphere of pre-war everyday life in the screenplay by including in the text a lot of documentary information, mentioning real historical personalities. It is established that the writer's psychologism is conditioned by the theme and problematics of the work. It is determined that the author embodied the features of the Russian national character in the characters.

CONCLUSION. Practical significance consists in the possibility of using the obtained materials in the practice of university and school teaching of modern Russian literature.

Live online interview: formats and features of communication
Laptieva D.K.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The development of technological progress has brought a variety of opportunities in the contemporary journalism, and the most significant event was the emergence of Internet. For the rest 10–15 years, the network space has been actively developing, and its users have been becoming content makers – bloggers, more frequently. The interview genre has been and remains the most popular in journalism, and now in blogging. Interview is adapting to the new conditions, especially its video formats. The purpose of the study is to examine and theoretically comprehend the features of live interview, and the variants of interaction between the host and the audience.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The study uses live broadcasts of the interview as the material of research. The following scientific methods are used in the study: a theoretical synthesis of literature devoted to the genesis of the interview genre and the phenomenon of live television, their current stage of development, as well as describes the viewed video materials.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. It was revealed that live online interview has several paradoxes. Firstly, only one person is being present in the frame, which contradicts with one of the main requirements of the interview – the presence of at least two people. Secondly, the host and the author of the program is not the interviewer, as it used to be on the television, but an interviewee.

CONCLUSION. The conversation and communication of the interlocutors in such conditions can still be considered a kind of interview, and its conduct is possible due to the high interactivity of the video format on the web.

Countering Fake News on Chinese Social Platforms: Communication Features of Weibo and WeChat
Muzykant V.L., Yan Y.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The peculiarities of fake news spreading on Chinese social platforms Weibo and WeChat are examined. The scientific problem is to identify the differences in the mechanisms of viral and hidden disinformation dissemination, and the purpose of the study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the applied mechanisms of disinformation and evaluate preventive measures to combat fake news.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. 2000 public posts with examples of fake news from Weibo and WeChat were used as the materials of the study. The methods of qualitative content analysis and comparative analysis were applied: systematic observation of fake news dissemination methods, analysis of the structure of social ties (“weak” and “strong” ties) of target audiences, and research of user behavior.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. Weibo, as an open network with “weak ties,” has been proven to enable lightning-fast viral spread of fake news through mass reposts and hashtags. WeChat, on the other hand, spreads misinformation through “strong” trust ties within closed groups and private chats, making news more secretive and difficult to verify. Anti-fake news tools used by media platforms include public rebuttal accounts, algorithmic regulation, AI and blockchain, with varying degrees of effectiveness depending on the type of network.

CONCLUSION. The interpretation of the results emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary cooperation and the expansion of global comparative research. In order to increase society’s resistance to fake news, comprehensive strategies for managing the information environment, developing digital humanities, increasing the transparency of moderation algorithms, and creating international mechanisms for promptly refuting disinformation are required.

INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION: NATIONAL IDENTITY

Veneration of St. Marfa (Aparina) in the Tambov Archdiocese
Vasnev S.I.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The tradition of veneration of St. Marfa of Tambov in the Tambov Archdiocese in the context of preserving and developing the traditions of Russian national spiritual culture is examined, which is very relevant against the background of the global trend towards the weakening of national and religious identity. The purpose of the study is to systematize and consistently present information about the life’s exploits, acquisition of relics, church canonization and the veneration of St. Marfa (Aparina) in the Tambov Archdiocese.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The research material includes liturgical texts and church documents (biography, Akathist, prayers of St. Marfa of Tambov, journals of the Holy Synod), and publications in the Tambov Diocesan Gazette (2006–2023). The research uses historical-chronological, ideographic methods, as well as content analysis.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. Veneration of St. Marfa in the Tambov diocese began immediately after her repose and did not weaken even during the years of Soviet rule: her grave at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Tambov was always visited by people to whom she performed miracles of healing. In 1988, St. Marfa was glorified as a saint for local veneration. On July 1, 2006, celebrations were held at the Holy Ascension Convent in honor of the finding of her relics. Two churches were consecrated in honor of the saint in the Tambov Archdiocese. The name of the blessed old woman is borne by the regional Tambov Perinatal Center. Veneration of St. Marfa is currently spreading in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

CONCLUSION. The veneration of St. Marfa in wide public circles testifies that the values of national spiritual culture are preserved on the Tambov land.

Pronouns functioning in the objectification of the linguistic personality of M. Poloznev (based on the story by A.P. Chekhov “My Life”)
Tamazyan V.A.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The anthropological paradigm of modern scientific knowledge actualizes the study of language in close connection with a specific carrier, that is, a linguistic personality. This fact determines the scientific problem of the research, which consists in addressing the study of “linguistic personality” integrative concept in relation to the character of a work of art. The goal of the study is to analyze the functioning of pronouns (indicative words) in the structure of the linguistic personality of a fiction text character.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The material of the study is the text of A.P. Chekhov’s story “My Life”, based on the analysis of which the study of the linguistic personality of Mikhail Poloznev is carried out. The paper uses continuous sampling, comparison, description, juxtaposition methods as well as the statistical method. The object of the study is indicating words (pronouns), which are studied from their functional load position at all levels of the structure of the linguistic personality of the character. Based on the continuous sampling method, the total number of pronouns (indicative words) in the individual lexicon of M. Poloznev is identified, and their functioning at all levels of the linguistic personality is analyzed.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The functioning of 90 indicative words (pronouns) with a total of 3603 uses in the individual lexicon of M. Poloznev is analyzed and described, which allowed us to draw a number of conclusions about the specifics of the character’s linguistic personality.

CONCLUSION. Conclusions are formulated that pronouns (indicative words) act as a means of objectifying world-modeling categories in the structure of the character’s linguistic personality, and their syntagmatic connections with conceptually significant units of the individual lexicon form an idea of the world picture of the protagonist.

Liu Y., Wang X.
Abstract

INTRODUCTION. Contemporary Russian writer Viktor Pelevin combines the qualities of an author of best-selling and postmodern works of the science fiction genre. His novel “Transhumanism Inc.” is both an example of serious classical literature and a popular book that is well loved by readers. The purpose of the study is to identify the semantic interpretation of the novel “Transhumanism Inc.” by V. Pelevin from the perspective of a combination in his literary work of the categories “mass character” and “classic” and the phenomenon “Umwelt”, reflecting the idiostyle of the author.

MATERIALS AND METHODS. The research material is the novel “Transhumanism Inc.” by Pelevin. The method of interpretation is used as a more definite way of understanding a literary text, which requires the involvement of non-linguistic information. To identify the deep meaning of a literary text, a method of analysis “nature-text” is used, which is based on the concept “Umwelt”. A descriptive approach is used to comprehend the writer’s idiostyle.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION. The interpretation of a literary text can be considered as the creative sphere of the writer and as the creative sphere of the reader. The peculiarity of V. Pelevin’s idiostyle is liberation from constructivist rationalism and a return “to naturalness”, in the implementation of the effect of liberation of the textual meaning of the novel for reader interpretation.

CONCLUSION. A new look at the study of Pelevin’s work has been identified, based on identifying a system for interpreting knowledge about the ethical regime of reading and immersing the reader’s consciousness in an ecological state.
