Аннотация
The following article examines the category of intensity and its relationship with expressiveness and gradation, with the aim of studying intensity in the modern German language using compound words containing an intensifying component and selected using the continuous sampling method. As a result of the semantic, contextual and definitional analysis, it was revealed that the role of an intensifier in compound words is most often played by a noun, which, as a result of metaphorically or metonymically motivated changes based on associations and analogies, acquired an intensifying meaning.
