Author Guidelines
'Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change' has being published since 2005. This is a scientific periodic journal that publishes articles on fundamental and applied matters comprising results of scientific researches conducted by a contributor (contributors) and published for the first time.
To publish an article in the 'Environmental Dynamics and Global Climate Change' journal one should submit a text of article for the editorial office documented in Russian or, as agreed with the editorial office, in English, corresponding with regulations mentioned below and a standard application containing information about the contributor (group of contributors).
An editorial board has the right to refrain from admitting an article for consideration if it does not correspond with the journal format or the editorial portfolio is overloaded. All articles submitted for the editorial office are to be reviewed. Articles in the journal (including post-graduate students) are published on the non-profit basis.
AUTHOR GUIDELINES (08.01.2019)
- MANUSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS. Two copies of the manuscript in Microsoft Word format (.rtf and .doc) should be submitted to the Editorial Office to Glagolev Mikhail (m_glagolev@mail.ru) or Lapshina Elena (e_lapshina@ugrasu.ru).
1.1. LENGTH OF THE MANUSCRIPT. The total volume of the manuscript should not exceed 11 typewritten pages. It may be increased in some cases by a decision of the Editorial board and reviewers, if technically feasible.
1.2. TEXT FORMATTING. The paper should be typed in a single-space format, on A4 paper size; all margins should be 2 cm. The font size of the main text should be 11 points. Paragraph indentation is 1 centimeter. Title names in the article (centered and initially capitalized, in 11 points) are preceded by two blank lines and one blank line following. Subtitles (centered and in boldface type, in 11 points) are only preceded by a blank line.
- FILE STRUCTURE
2.1. WRITING AN ORIGINAL ABSTRACT. The first line is for the Universal decimal classification index (left alignment). The title (centered and initially capitalized) should be written in the second line in boldface type. Leave one blank line to print the full names of all authors in bold italic typeface with central alignment (full names preferred for posting papers at eLibrary). Names of scientific organizations (with notes showing each author’s organization) in italic font with left alignment should follow one blank line below. The town or city of the organization separated by a comma should be noticed after its name if it is not mentioned there (e.g. Moscow city shouldn’t be noted if the organization name is Moscow State University). The contact person (corresponding author) should be specified one blank line below. The Abstract should be written in 10 points italic font and should contain about 10 lines followed by one blank line. In the next line the author should list the keywords after inscription «Keywords:» in bold italic typeface (10 points). Leave one blank line. The next line «Citation» should be written in 10 points in English as follows: "Citation: Popov P.V. 2016. Title of the manuscript // Environmental dynamics and global climate change. V. 7. N. 8 (14). P. 28-35. ». Leave one blank line before the main text. The last line «Citation» should be written in 10 points in Russian as follows: "Citation: Popov P.V. 2016. Title of the article // Environmental dynamics and global climate change. V. 7. N. 8 (14). P. 28-35. » (the editors will perform the translation of a Russian citation, if necessary)
2.2. WRITING A RUSSIAN ABSTRACT. The manuscript should end with a Russian annotation. The editors will translate the original text of the abstract to Russian, if necessaryThe Russian title (centered and initially capitalized) should be written in boldface type.
Contact information (the author for correspondence) should be written one blank line below. The Russian Abstract should be written as an originalabstract , a size 10 in italics, and summarize the main results. In the next line the author should list the keywords after inscription «Keywords:» in bold italic typeface (10 point). Leave one blank line before the main text. Leave one blank line. The last line «Citation», written in 10 points as follows: "Citation: Popov P.V. 2016. Title of the article // Environmental dynamics and global climate change. V. 7. N. 8 (14). P. 28-35. »
2.3. THE BODY OF THE TEXT should be structured in sections. The experimental scientific article usually has the following sections: INTRODUCTION, METHODS, RESULTS, DISCUSSION, CONCLUSIONS, and REFERENCES. In addition to these sections the section AKNOWLEDGEMENS may be placed before the LITERATURE section. If there are some additional data to the article, they could be placed in an APPENDIX section located after the section LITERATURE.
2.4. CITATION. References in text should be enclosed in square brackets. The examples below illustrate basic rules on citing references in text:
[Cao et al., 1998] – a reference to an English article written by 3 or more authors;
[Arah and Stephen, 1998] – a reference to an English article written by 2 authors;
[Grant, 1998] – a reference to an English article written by 1 author.
For the convenience of the reader (in case if he would like to address to the original source of the cited material), it is desirable to specify pages in the link describing the cited information that follow the year of this publication and separated by a comma (note that in English and Russian texts, “p.” and "s." are placed before the page number, respectively; if necessary, you can specify several pages in one link).Examples:
[Cao et al., 1998, р. 3293],
[Кароль, 1996, с. 5-7],
[Wille et al., 2008, p. 5, 8].
It is also possible to place several references in a historical order within the same square brackets, separated by a semicolon:
[Cao et al., 1998, р. 3293; Wille et al., 2008, p. 5, 8].
2.5. LIST OF REFERENCES.
In the list of references, a font of size 9 should be used. All references should be arranged in alphabetical order. It is necessary to indicate not only the names of journals, but also the titles of cited articles. The names of journals can be abbreviated in the generally accepted way (http://images.webofknowledge.com/WOK46P9/help/WOS/A_abrvjt.html). Be sure to include the DOI for the article at the end of the reference if possible.
For detailed rules for the design of literature, see paragraph 8 below.
- TABLES. In the completed manuscript, all tables with captions should be placed after the text of the manuscript. The table titles should be written in 11 points size, the word "Table" and its number should be in bold, the font size of the table can be chosen by the author, but should not be less, than 8 points.
- FIGURES. All figures with captions should be placed at the very end of the completed the manuscript after the tables. The captions should be written in 11 points size, the word "Fig" and its number should be in bold and italics. In addition, figures should be presented in separate graphic files (one figure - one file). The names of these graphic files should composed of the surname of the first author of the manuscript and the Fig.№.
Duplicating of the results in tables or figures is not permitted. The author should present the same necessary information either in the table or on the figure in the main manuscript even if he considers it is reasonable to present it in both ways. He can do that in supplemental electronic materials to the manuscript available on the website of the journal.
The manuscript can also contain color figures (mainly photos and maps). They should be placed on separate pages at the end of the manuscript (1-2 color pictures on one page of the A4 formate). In the journal all color pictures are placed on appendixes including 8 pages one after another with individual continuous picture numbering. Since the journal (for technical reasons), can contain only one or two appendixes, we ask authors who desire to include color pictures in the manuscript to discuss this issue with the editor responsible for the print version of the journal (Prof. Lapshina E.D.).
- FORMULAS At the discretion of the author, formulas should be centered or positioned to the left of the text.. Numerals in parentheses should be used for formula numbering when necessary. A formula number should be placed on its right side.
- ABBREVIATIONS (except the generally accepted abbreviations) should stand in special chapter called «Used abbreviations».
- DATA PUBLISHING. We encourage the authors to make the data publicly available that underlie the manuscript or are described in it. The authors can present the original data in one of the following ways: 1) the data files can be imported in the text (e.g., Darwin Core occurrence data, checklists, tables, literature references), 2) the data files can be attached to the manuscript as supplementary materials, 3) the large data sets can be imported in established international repositories (e.g. GBIF, Dryad, NCBI GenBank, Pangaea, TreeBASE, Morphbank, and others). In this case the authors must provide the link to the datasets (including accession numbers, DOIs or other persistent URL identifiers). Guidelines for the publication of the original data related to biodiversity can be found in the Strategies and guidelines for scholarly publishing of biodiversity data (Penev et al. 2017, Research Ideas and Outcomes 3: e12431. https://doi.org/10.3897/rio.3.e12431).
- THE EXAMPLES OF CORRECT REFERENCES:
8.1. In references to journal papers, the authors, the year of publication, the journal name, the volume, the issue, and the page numbers should be separated from each other by dots with one exception: two slashes should be placed between the journal and paper names. It is advisable to specify both volume number and issue number unless extra information is provided in the reference. Example:
Charney J.G., Halem M., Jastrow R. 1969. Use of incomplete historical data to infer the present state of the atmosphere // J. Atmos. Sci. V. 26. P. 116-120.
8.2. New publication system DOI (Digital Object Identifier System) is frequently used in references to modern journal papers. Continuous numbering of pages is not used in DOI referencing format but every paper has its specific alphanumeric code. Example:
